Sympathy

This painting shows a little girl who has been sent to bed early as a punishment sitting on the stairs being comforted by a dog. The artist recorded that he painted the little girl from his daughter Millicent, and the dog 'with slight alterations (as my animals are never portraits) was done from a bull terrier belonging to a man who has supplied me with dogs for some considerable time.'
