British, 1849 - 1917

Narcissus

Date: 1912

Possibly exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1913, no. 206. There appear to be two versions of this picture. It is not clear whether this or the other version was exhibited at the Royal Academy.

Narcissus was a beautiful youth in Greek mythology who pined away for love of his own reflection and was then turned into the narcissus flower (similar to a daffodil).
