BIOGRAPHY
Painter of portraits, genre, town scenes and landscapes. Born in Lincoln on 25th May 1859. His father George Logsdail (1827-1905) was verger at Lincoln Cathedral for over fifty years and was a well-known and well respected Lincoln personality. Studied at Lincoln School of Art and under Verlat at the Antwerp Academy. Won gold medals for oil and water-colour painting at the R.C.A. 1875-76. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1877. Worked in Venice where he lived 1881-87 and 1892-1901 also in Sicily and Cairo. (He rented the Palazzo Contarini on the Madonna del 'Orto in Venice). Member of the N.E.A.C. 1886. Rented a studio at Primrose Hill from 1887. During his earlier years he painted mainly architectural subjects but from 1903 painted portraits exclusively. Lived at Noke, near Oxford, for many years and died there on 3rd September 1944.
