BIOGRAPHY

Painter in oil and watercolour of historical subjects, portraits, genre and landscapes. Born in London on 21st December 1849, nephew of the portrait painter John Lucas (1807-74). Studied art at the RA Schools. Elected ARA 1886, RA 1898, RI 1877. In 1914 he was commissioned to paint a large fresco of The Flight of the Five Members 1642 for the House of Commons. Lived in London and died on 8th May 1923. His wife, Marie, was also a painter.
