BIOGRAPHY
Painter of historical figure subjects in watercolour. Born in London, and studied at Leigh's Art School. Illustrated at an early age for The Graphic but then attained success as a painter, being elected A.R.I. in 1867, R.I. 1870, and P.R.I. 1884-98, an office he again held from 1909 to 1916. He wa Knighted in 1885.
