BIOGRAPHY

Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes and figure subjects; mural decorator. Born on 26th January 1867 in London of Portuguese parents. Studied at the RA Schools from 1887-89 and in Paris. Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1891. Elected N.P.S. 1911, A.R.W.S. 1917, R.W.A. 1919, R.W.S. 1932, P.R.O.I. 1945, and V.P.R.W.S. 1953. Principal of Edinburgh College of Art from 1924-32. Represented in several public collections. Lived in Northwood, Middlesex, where he died on 2nd August 1959.
