BIOGRAPHY

Painter in oil of genre, portraits and classical subjects. Born in London on 7th January 1834. Studied at J.M. Leigh's Art School, London, and at the RA Schools. Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1852, and was elected ARA in 1876, and R.A. in 1914. Teacher of Perspective at the Royal Academy from 1900, and Professor from 1914. Visited Spain between 1862-63. Author of Sketches from Memory (1899) and Theory and Practice of Perspective (1910). Lived in London and died on 29th July 1919.
