Elliot Daingerfield was born in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, the son of a Confederate general, and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. As a young man he moved to New York to study art and became inspired by the European Symbolist movement. Elements of impressionism can also be seen in his work. His painting The Spirit of the Storm
is at Reynolda House.
