TREASURES FROM OLANA: LANDSCAPES BY FREDERIC EDWIN CHURCH

Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900), one of America’s most popular nineteenth-century Hudson River School landscape painters, made important contributions to the history of art in this country. This exhibition of eighteen of the artist’s most exquisite oils, watercolors, and drawings from Church’s own collection highlights his accomplishments in a variety of media. The exhibition includes his powerful and exotic El Khasné, Petra (1874) and lyric panorama of Niagara, Horseshoe Falls (1856–57). Curated by Metropolitan Museum of Art curator Kevin J. Avery, the exhibition features works from the artist’s historic estate, Olana, located in Hudson, New York. This will be the first time the collection has been seen in New York City.
