THE LEIGHTON DRAWINGS PROJECT: A PREVIEW
A display of some of the highlights and hidden treasures of the Leighton House Drawings Collection. There are over 700 drawings by Lord Leighton at the Museum, by far the largest collection of Leighton's work in the world. Currently closed to the public, few of the drawings have ever been on public display and many are in urgent need of conservation.
This exciting project allows the drawings to be made fully accessible through a programme of conservation, an illustrated online catalogue, and a wide array of events, culminating in the first touring exhibition of Leighton's work as a draftsman.
This display of studies for some of Leighton's greatest paintings, provides an insight into the delicate process of conserving and restoring works on paper, and a preview of what to expect when the collection re-opens in November 2006.
