BEYOND THE VISIBLE: THE ART OF ODILON REDON

In 2000, the Ian Woodner Family Collection donated more than one hundred paintings, pastels, watercolors, drawings, prints, and illustrated books by French artist Odilon Redon (1840–1916) to MoMA. This gift substantially augmented the Museum's holdings of the work of this important Symbolist artist. Highlighting the Woodner Gift, Beyond the Visible: The Art of Odilon Redon presents the full range of Redon's achievements—mysterious charcoal "noirs," luminous pastels, richly textured canvases, dramatically shaded lithographs, and collaborations with literary figures—through the Museum's now unparalleled collection of the artist's work.
