THÉO VAN RYSSELBERGHE
Théo Van Rysselberghe (1862-1926) was a key figure in Neo-Impressionism in Belgium. This exhibition looks at his life and work. Van Rysselberghe maintained close links with the great Belgian and French painters and writers of his time. He produced a number of portraits of friends such as Emile Verhaeren, Edmond Picard, Camille Lemonnier, André Gide, Paul Signac and Henri-Edmond Cross. Famous masterpieces of Van Rysselberghe will be on display along with works on paper and photographs and letters.
Several styles are illustrated in the exhibition: orientalism (first trips to Morocco), impressionism (of the navy close to Knokke, the scenes of the life in Morocco), neo-impressionism, portraits and his late works (marine, landscapes, female nude).
