VICTORIAN OLYMPIANS

An exhibition of works in Australian and New Zealand collections, with some loans from overseas, arranged by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Australia, like Britain, is well endowed with Victorian art in many of its collections. In Australia this is not surprising as the period coincides with much of Australian civic development and was marked by a strong allegiance to the British tradition.

Splendid examples of the work of the Victorian Olympians can be seen in individual galleries in Australia, but it is not until they are brought together in an exhibition such as this that we have the opportunity of seeing the extent and the strength of our holdings. We are also able to see the movement more clearly and this is made possible especially by the inclusion of important works on loan from overseas collections.
