THE ART OF THE PRE-RAPHAELITES AND RUSSIAN PAINTINGS

The exhibition includes 13 Pre-Raphaelite works, including canvases by John William Waterhouse, Frederick Leighton, James Tissot, Albert Moore, Frank Dicksee, John Everett Millais and Lawrence Alma-Tadema.

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, considered to be the first avant-garde group in art, was a group of U.K. painters, poets, and critics founded in 19th century. It became extremely popular in Russia in the late 19th - early 20th century.

John William Waterhouse's St. Cecilia is expected to be the exhibition's centerpiece. The canvas was previously displayed in London's Tate Gallery and is not for sale.

The works by Russian avant-garde artists will illustrate the new trends that emerged in Russian art of the early 20th century under the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites. The collection includes works by Natalya Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Vladimir Baranov-Rossine, Vasily Shukhayev and Natan Altman.
