The Edwardian Era in Great Britain began in 1901. Although King Edward VII died in 1910, many historians "extend" his era to include the WWI years, ending it with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. During the War years John William Waterhouse was painting his final works, and the career of John Singer Sargent was still thriving. Other notable Edwardians include the writers George Bernard Shaw, G.K. Chesterton, Beatrix Potter, Kenneth Grahame, Lucy Maude Montgomery, and P.G. Wodehouse, and the composer Edward Elgar. It was, of course, an era of elegance in men's and women's fashion.
