The Victorian Age

Preceded by the Regency Period and succeeded by the Edwardian Era, the Victorian Era (1837-1901) was the age of the Pre-Raphaelites (Rossetti, Millais, and Holman-Hunt) as well as the Neo-Classicists (Alma-Tadema, Godward, Waterhouse, etc.) and William Morris; Dickens, Verdi, Disraeli, Conan-Doyle, and too many other great figures to mention.  Though it was an age of peace and prosperity in Great Britain, it was not without its social problems, as the paintings WORK and THE AWAKENING CONSCIENCE suggest.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_era
