Perhaps my favorite painting by Waterhouse.  I don't believe the reproduction here quite does it justice; in every other print of it I've seen, the colors are much more vivid and striking.

Miranda is the first Waterhouse work I ever saw and bought, in print form.

Ophelia

I can appreciate all three of Waterhouse's Ophelias; all three are masterpieces.  But this 1894 one is my favorite.  I like how Waterhouse uses the slightly raised arms to suggest Ophelia's madness.

2/23/2010 7:01:54 PM Awake Hi Nicole. Hope you are well! Lovely album. Great selections here. I had never really noticed 'St. Cecilia', so thanks for pointing it out. The 'Blue Ophelia' is breathtaking as well. Lots of beautiful choices here. I've always loved 'Boreas' ... the way Waterhouse captures the movement of the wind is just incredible. Peace to you. -TM
2/24/2010 1:47:00 PM nicoledesapio_nbdrt Good to see you back, Awake. Thanks for taking the time to view my album.
2/26/2010 4:14:10 AM Awake I'm curious. Did you ever decide to go and see the new 'Sherlock Holmes' movie? If so, what did you think?
3/8/2010 8:43:39 PM robyn.hartley.simpson_nwemu Lovely selection - I wonder if you have bought any prints on canvas through 'Illusions Gallery'? Or would recommend any other suppliers? I'd love to start a collcection of Waterhouse prints.
3/9/2010 10:54:57 AM nicoledesapio_nbdrt Hi, Awake. No, I never did get around to seeing Sherlock Holmes. I'll have to rent it, I guess.
3/9/2010 10:57:02 AM nicoledesapio_nbdrt Hi, Robyn. Thanks for your comment. I have several Waterhouse works on paper but none on canvas. Someday I'd like to order a painting from the 1st Art Gallery, which is the art reproduction business that is linked to on this site. I also recommend the John William Waterhouse calendar, published by Pomegranate.
