that which they exhibit,
that which they have,
and that which they think they have.

There are three things that can destroy a preacher,
the glory, the gold, and the girls.

There are three faithful friends,
an old wife, an old dog, and ready money.

There are three things extremely hard:
steel, a diamond, and to know one's self.

A college education should equip one
to entertain three things:
a friend, an idea and oneself.

By three methods we may learn wisdom:
First, by reflection, which is noblest;
second, by imitation, which is easiest;
and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Wisdom, compassion, and courage are the three
universally recognized moral qualities of men.

Three things are not to be trusted;
a cow's horn, a dog's tooth,
and a horse's hoof

And now abideth faith, hope and love,
these three, but the greatest
of these is love.

There are three things in the world that deserve no mercy,
hypocrisy, fraud, and tyranny.
