I originally started with those images available in Black/White only. Then there was this Klimt which was destroyed in WWII. Then I rearranged and posted a few missing or stolen. Finally, I added a few charcoals and a couple of pencils. There's also the Waterhouse A Byway: Ancient Rome - a wood engraving. Here's the Klimt which I had originally put in the middle of this "b/w" album: http://www.artmagick.com/paintings/painting800.aspx I thought the background on this and other Klimt paintings important. |

I had to delete the Klimt. Good for overall effect in this album, but there were so many others in black & white.. C. |

I appreciate your efforts, chiaroscuro. The resulting album is quite a pleasure to look at, and drew my attention to several pictures that I had not noticed before :>) |

P.S. You mentioned elsewhere that you might create a Zodiac album containing ArtMagick members. I think it's a splendid idea and hope you do it :>) |

Mademoiselle Alienor |
An other great album signed Chiaroscuro... :) I see there is no need for colors to show beauty. And sometimes, b/w is better than colors. Also, I discovered a picture I did not know (JWW's The Mystic Marriage of St Catherine).
Thanx for sharing :) xx |

Well, love lost-kat-Alienor, as you can see this one goes back to the beginning of this year. Could have been my last album of 2003. Just before the clock struck the midnight hour.. C. |

Many of these paintings have been lost or stolen, or perhaps destroyed. My aim in this B/W album is to keep the hope alive that someone will say, I've seen that painting... :) |

the very colors play alot with the essntial value of the picture. nothing is like that now. it does make everything much more beautiful to long to know what the picture would be like if it was in color. |

There were a couple I know were available only in b/w; apparently the originals were found somewhere. For sure this one -- http://www.art-albums.com/paintings/default.aspx?id=3041 -- and I'm almost 100% about this one too -- http://www.art-albums.com/paintings/default.aspx?id=2695 -- C. |

You know, last evening you pointed out the Stokes - yet the one I looked at initially was the Point. I got a little confused, per usual. Then I went back here, your comment, that space just begging for a link - and I could not think of a more beautiful link for The Princess and the Unicorn by Armand Point than The Cloisters. Such a magnificent place. C. |

The Siren is beautiful in color. New Link to Illusions Gallery. Been awhile since I visited there. Wow. C. |

Certainly The siren(Point's) is amaizing in light and colour... she's without doubt amaizing pretty.. And by the way i've back tonight to your link.. capturating back the Unicorn..and i felt like a short-circuit, unconsciously I've given a flick through the manuals and it's all fine now..;^) |

Hi, chi lookinag at Danaë in the link,I'm thinking Why Waterhouse,, missed the waves strengh of the sea, he demostrated at the white and black painting?...in ways i prefer the inked style one.. |
| 9/7/2006 11:32:27 PM |
chiaroscuro |
That color one was 'after JW Waterhouse and speculated that it was the work of a student copyist' - ergo not the same intensity at all. The original Waterhouse's 'Danae' in color by Waterhouse is still missing. Hopefully it will turn up. C. |

hmm. Yes, Ebay - for those little last minute gifts. :) -- I looked RM, and I don't recall - was there a color version discovered? I guess I'll have to replace Miranda, as we need another undiscovered Black | White for the album. Help me find one. C. |

Hi, RM. I don't know if Merritt's Ophelia is exactly a B/W. For some reason it appears like an etching or chalk to me. I've seen her 'Eve' in chalk, not the one shown in the Art Albums collection of Artists, and it reminds me that this one may be similar in but in reverse. I love that Ophelia btw. I am probably not making myself clear. I may just leave Miranda to show the contrast. It's an interesting story. Sorry if I am confusing you. C. -- Yes, sg, it is quite a lovely painting. I am glad I had an opportunity to view it. An early Waterhouse in the Alma-Tadema Greek style - as Peter Trippi would say. Ergo, it sold for a pittance as compared to later pictures. :) |

I love these, especially "1816," with its Regency-era costumes. (I've added it to my own "Regency" album.) There's a way in which black and white is more vivid than color. I feel the same way about black and white films. |
